There's no question that the iPhone clones inspired a whole industry of unlocked phones chock full of standard features that allow you to surf the internet, send email and text messages, listen to the radio, watch and listen to MP3 / MP4s, take photos and video, read e-books, enjoy Bluetooth, and have two phone numbers, all in one phone.
Until recently though, there weren't many clones that offered a real, raised keyboard for messaging and texting. You were basically stuck using a touch screen and although many people like this, there is a definite subset of people who don't.
For these folks, clone manufacturers finally got around to rolling out unlocked mobile phones that are loaded with the same features, but also include a full keyboard and scroll bar on which to send messages. Examples are the N99i, the K530i, and now the ZXN.
The ZXN comes in two finishes. The black (B model) and silver (S model). It manages to squeeze a 2.6 inch touch screen in with a full keyboard and scroll bar and it has all of the standard clone features, including MP3 / MP4, Bluetooth, digital phone and web cam and an expandable 2GB of memory.
The texting on this phone is great since the keys are firm but not hard to manipulate. One additional feature that is outstanding on this phone (but is also often overlooked) is the 3.0 mega pixel digital camera and the advanced editing features it contains. Most (even higher priced) clones have 1.3 MP cameras. The 3.0 MP camera in the ZXN is a major upgrade and is among the best on the market.
This phone is tri band. Although this works with most carriers, (AT&T, Cingular, Fido, SunCom, and T-Mobile, to name only a few) check with your specific carrier to be sure. This ZXN does not include analog television. If you want this feature on a texting clone, have a look at the N99i.
I think the most compelling thing about the ZXN mobile is the price tag. Starting at around, , it's among the cheapest unlocked import phones on the market right now, but if you're looking for an unlocked phone that's made for messaging with a great camera, in my opinion, this one is also among the best.
